The fun factor

We love hikes with a backstory and a quest, which is why this one is among our favorites. The adventure centers on Marmot Flumsi, who is ill, and it's up to you to help his friends—Marmot Flumsina, Red Deer Rohan, and Woodpecker Spiro—create a magic healing potion.

After a gondola and chairlift ride, you’ll begin a 3 km downhill hike filled with fun stations that guide you through crafting the potion. The stations are close together, keeping kids engaged and motivated to continue as they eagerly anticipate each new activity along the way.

Here are our top 6 Fun Factors of Rohan Red Deer Adventure Trail in Flumserberg

1. Craft a magic healing potion to cure Marmot Flumsi

Pick up a free adventure card at the gondola station. Along the trail, you'll encounter two types of stations: medicinal herb ones and magical practice areas. These stations begin shortly after you start walking from the top of the chairlift and continue nearly to the end of the hike.

At the nine medicinal herb stations, you'll find boards with information about plants and herbs, along with fun interactive activities. Here, you can learn, play, and "collect" ingredients for your magic potion by punching your adventure card at each stop.

At the six magical practice areas, you'll master essential skills for any aspiring magician—speed, concentration, balance, vibration, dexterity, and more. You'll tackle obstacle courses, throw pine cones into tree trunks, balance sticks, and even play music—all thoughtfully designed and great fun.

2. Hit the playground

The trail ends at the alpine playground with slides, swings, a giant air pillow, and a bouncy castle. Right next to it, you'll find spots to grab a drink and snack, along with sunbeds to relax and watch the kids play after the hike. We’re always amazed by the sudden burst of energy our child gets when she spots a playground—especially one with bouncy castles, her absolute favorite!

3.  Climb and play mini-golf

For an additional cost, you can also enjoy the CLiiMBER—a 15-meter-high climbing tower similar to rope parks found elsewhere. The CLiiMBER features over 100 climbing stations spread across three levels: miniCLiiMBER for kids aged 4 and up, flyingCLiiMBER with 6 zip lines, and CLiiMBERwall with 5 climbing routes. You'll receive a harness and a quick briefing before exploring it on your own. Just keep in mind the opening times—we arrived a bit too late to try it out, so we saved it for another day. It looked like a lot of fun!

Right next to the CLiiMBER, there’s a mini golf course if that’s more your thing—also available at an extra cost.

4.  Conquer a bike trail

Flumserberg is famous for its biking paths, and you’ll often see bikers going up and down the gondola. They have their own separate paths, so aside from the shared areas near the gondola and chairlift, your experience on the Rohan Red Deer Adventure Trail won’t be interrupted. However, the youngest hikers can test their biking skills on a mini walking bike trail designed for balance bikes, located right next to the playground, CLiiMBER, and a restaurant. Helmets and small balance bikes are available for free —a convenience we found very handy.

5.  Beyond Rohan Red Deer Adventure Trail

For us, the activities above filled the day, and we didn’t need anything else. However, if you still have the energy, you can embark on an additional 45-minute hike (2 km) to the FLOOMZER summer toboggan run. We decided to save it for another day.

The fitness factor

The hike is 3 km long and 366 meters dowhill. No strollers.

The trail follows an easy forest path with no drop-offs. Although technically not difficult, we recommend it for kids aged 4 and up who are comfortable walkers, as the continuous downhill can be tiring for little legs.

The views factor

The views from the Prodkamm top chair station and the start of the hike showcase stunning mountain peaks. Even on the foggy day we visited, they were impressive. As you continue downhill, the trail leads into a forested area, offering a different kind of charm that adds to the magical feel of the hike.

The food factor

There are plenty of great food options available. At the top of the chairlift station (Prodkamm), where the hike starts, you'll find the charming Berggasthaus Prodkamm, offering a kids' menu, Swiss cuisine, including a seasonal salad menu, and an indoor playroom. We did this hike on the coldest day in August and stopped there to warm up with some tea before starting the hike—it was a cozy and enjoyable experience.

At the bottom of the chairlift station, where the hike ends, you'll find Bergrestaurant Prodalp and a few small bars offering snacks and drinks. While we didn’t try them, we appreciated the outdoor terraces with views of the playground and fun attractions. It's a great spot to relax and watch the kids play.

Along the way, there are two beautiful barbecue spots, with wood provided. Both have nice benches with tables and offer stunning views. If DIY meals are more your style, be sure to pack some food and enjoy a picnic in nature!
