The fun factor

Swissminiatur in Melide offers a unique way to explore Switzerland’s famous landmarks in miniature. The park showcases 133 detailed models of buildings, monuments, and transport systems, all crafted to a 1:25 scale with impressive attention to detail. Opened in 1959 by Pierre Vuigner, a local grocer with a vision, the park has grown over the years, continually adding more mini masterpieces.

.

Despite the rainy weather during our visit, we had a fantastic time. The pathways are well-designed, and the rain didn’t take away from the charm of seeing Switzerland in miniature form. Plus, the park has a fun activity corner for kids and an area where you can see how the models are made—both of which kept us engaged and entertained.

Here are our top 3 Fun Factors of Swiss Minature

1. Step into a miniature Switzerland

Stepping into the area feels like entering a miniature version of Switzerland—trains chugging along (our daughter’s favorite), majestic castles (ours!), gondolas, highways, football stadiums, and even a tiny circus. It’s like being a giant in a perfectly crafted little world.

Our daughter loved running between the displays, excitedly pointing out the trains and buildings, imagining herself in the middle of all the tiny adventures. Just note - younger kids might feel a bit frustrated as touching isn’t allowed.

2. Discover how the magic is made

Inside one of the buildings, you can dive deeper into the artistry behind these mini masterpieces. Watch as employees meticulously create new models or restore old ones, learn about the process through videos, and even get a chance to touch some of the exhibits. It’s a fantastic addition for those curious about the craftsmanship or for little hands eager to explore!

3. Hit the interactive fun zone

There’s also a fun area designed just for kids! They can enjoy moving toys and mechanical games that slide back and forth, float boats in the water, and try other interactive activities. Some games require coins — there’s a change machine on-site that accepts credit cards, if you don't have any at hand.

The food factor

There’s also a snack bar, the grotto 'Pinin,' with a nice selection of sandwiches and snacks, including veggie and vegan options. And of course, we couldn’t resist treating ourselves to some ice cream!
