The fun factor
We love obstacle runs for their family bonding opportunities! These events are usually a few kilometers long with obstacles to tackle together. Plus, there's always a medal at the end and delicious street food treats to enjoy!
Recently, we had a blast at the 2024 Xletix Kids Obstalce Run. This particular event is all about the mud. The muddy obstacles are scattered throughout the course, with running in between. Participants can choose between the 5 km Action track and the 2-3 km Fun track. We opted for the Fun track and enjoyed every muddy second!
Here are our top Fun Factors of the Xletix Kids Obstacle Run:
1. Embark on a family adventure
For us, going on a family run is not really about performance but more about family bonding time. We always make it into a day event. First is the preparation - sometimes even selecting matching outfits to show that we come as a team. Then there is an atmosphere. There is music, there are food booths, there are people celebrating achievements. There is also a fun warm-up. And then it's about running and conquering obstacles together - helping each other, motivating each other and having a shared sense of acomplishment. And of course there is a medal and celebratory ice cream or a sausage at the end!
2. Dive into the mud
The main theme of the Xletix Kids Obstalce Run is the mud! Around half of the obstacles involve jumping into tanks filled with mud or muddy water. Some are only knee-deep, while others require fully submerging yourself in very cold water. It’s definitely a challenge if you're looking to push your limits, and our grandpa and dad loved every moment of it. My daughter and I skipped the dives, which is perfectly fine. The event is all about family time and enjoying yourself.
3. Conquer the obstacles
The other half of the obstacles focuses on climbing, crawling, balancing, and sliding. You crawl under nets, walk over thin bridges while holding ropes, climb over nets, and slide down fun slides. These activities are fun and challenging, but still manageable for kids, especially with family support. We tackled these obstacles together, and our child proudly conquered them all!
4. Join the foam party
Our kid's favorite Xletix Kids obstacle was the foam party—a passage filled with foam. She loved running through it and playing in the bubbly fun, making it a highlight of the day. And truth be told, we parents had a blast too, proving that sometimes the best family fun is found in a cloud of bubbles!
5. The fitness factor: set your own pace
Between the obstacles, there’s a trail for walking or running. You can choose between two courses: the “Fun” course, which is 2-3 km with c. 10 obstacles, or the “Action” course, which is 5 km with c. 20 obstacles. We opted for the Fun course, and it turned out to be the perfect distance for us. We alternated between jogging and walking, which gave us a good mix of exercise and enjoyment.
For those seeking more of a challenge, the Action course is a great option, and if you want to push yourself even further, you can time your performance. Either way, it’s a fantastic experience!
6. Play games
Before or after the run, you can hit the food stalls for some delicious street food (we went for burgers, sausages, and of course, ice cream) or play some family games such as mini ping pong or Connect 4. There were even stilts to try out! Our kids' favorite was the biking course, where you can try out balance or traditional Woom bikes.
